Hello protagonists and welcome to the last soda time for March of 2016!
This past week was Easter, and while I’m not a religious person, I always take time around the holidays to visit my family. During the visit, however, I didn’t get a lot of work done, so I did as much as I could these past couple of days in order to make up for missed time. As of today, I’m scheduled to be at 10,400 words of New Game+ (About 13% of the final word count). Now, I’m not quite there yet, but it’ll be easy for me to make up. I’m not gonna lie, this really was just me being overly confident in my abilities. I was at a point that I thought would be really simple for me to write, so I procrastinated over my Easter visit, not really putting in any time to work and as a result, that really put me back. I’m only about 1,000 words behind, so if I just clock in a couple extra words this week I’ll be right back on schedule in no time.
To explain, this entire segment was one extremely long action scene, probably the longest action scene I think I’ve written. I’ll go back and look at Spring-Heeled Jack to see if it had a longer sequence, but I don’t think it did. Normally, once I get going on an action scene I usually don’t stop unless I absolutely have to or until I finish. I expected this one to be the same, but due to my cocky attitude (and the fact that I didn’t expect it to be this long) it took me way longer than I thought it would.
Now, one of the things that actually took me a while was thinking of a name for a character. As I’ve said before, New Game+ is my love letter to video games and what they meant to my childhood. As such, I’ve been trying to make subtle references to different games. I won’t give away any of the references yet except for the one that hung me up. The scene I just finished involved the characters fighting off against a massive boss monster; The Harvest King Bonooru. For all of those unaware, Bonooru is the name of a scarecrow character in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s not a big deal, but its one of those things that I think will be a neat little touch.
Anyways protagonists, thank you all very much for tuning in. Hopefully next week I’ll have a bit more interesting stuff to say. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
